I'm a big proponent of WHL superiority, but man The Huskies looked like a vastly better team as the game went on.

Just saw a mock draft us taking Jake Bean because Mark Streit isn't getting any younger.

Brandon didn't have an answer...........didn't look like they were communicating & got caught just staring at the Huskies.

If they feel he's the BPA that's fine, but that shouldn't be the case.

That'd be nice.......I like Max Jones and he'd be one I'd consider at 18 but he's more a power forward............but there could still be size, speed, & skill available.

What are your thoughts on Rubtsov and Mattson? Seems Button ranked Jones and Stanley lower.

Haha that was my first thought...."Who?" Might be this guy. I don't know why he'd be at the forefront of anyone's mind though....

Not in round 1, and I think I'd like a few others than him even in round 2

As a forward, 3 goals and 0 assists in 31 USHL games this year doesn't exactly scream out to me. He is 6'4" though. I'm going to go out on a limb and say other factors were at play given he had 7 points in 13 USHL games last year. But even his HS stats were stagnant year to year.

Okay, maybe with one of their 2nd's but wish he'd have shown a bit more in the numbers.

Button had him ranked at 24. Going to UND in the fall. Just curious why he would be so high with pedestrian stats. The size is probably combined with plus skating I would assume

Button ranks them based on how he sees them at the next level, not just as they are currently.

Button values USHL players a lot more highly than other Canadian media types...I like Button, so there is probably more there and other factors at play. That is one hideous draft year stat line though. It isn't easy to go from HS to USHL mid year, and even Tufte had pretty pedestrian stats in his small sample this year after going hog wild in HS. But 3 points in 31 games is downright subterranean. Looking at his HS stats, he didn't show much growth the last couple years either, compared to someone like Tufte.

I don't know what to think is my answer.

Yeah I understand it is very subjective. I respect button s opinions, certainly no one is always right. Mattson stood out on the list due to his pedestrian stats and size. Button has done a decent job identifying talent that took significant leaps after being drafted. For the flyers he was right about sanheim

Button has Brown on that list at 27 and Adam Fox at 98. At the u18s all he did was slobber on both of them. I think he may have Brown now at 5/6 based on some cryptic tweets. Wouldn't shock me if Fox jumped 40+ spots. I wouldn't put a ton of stock in his 2-3 month old list.

I always love when Button says this, as if it's some unique thing. What scout isn't projecting how good a player will be in a handful of years at the next level? They all do this. He just trots that answer out when his rank of a player is an outlier. He doesn't copy McKenzie's ranking; it's personal, hence why I appreciate it. But no real scout is ranking thinking players are finished products at 18.

Well you can see many people's "rankings" only reflect the players & what they have currently done.

I imagine the teams themselves do it like Button

Watched this game from start to finish and thought that Provorov and Myers were the best two D men on the ice. Provorov is so smooth out there, made perfect passes look easy and laid out a few guys. His shot looked lethal as well unfortunately he missed the net a lot. Myers was everywhere for the Huskies, patient with the puck and smart positionally he also skated the puck out a lot and look dangerous from the point. Going in I had high expectations, and both players exceeded them! Very pumped for the future blueline of the Flyers!

Lauzon has a bright future too. Boston prospect I think

Provorov never looks like he's out of gas. He has true #1 potential

Provorov is not afraid to put the shoulder into a forward. He plays with a surprising edge considering he isn't the biggest dman.
